Leadership The NZCC 3 Year programme takes young adults and teaches them how to be fair and responsible leaders. Throughout their cadet careers, these youth learn how to take responsibility for their actions and how to motivate their peers to follow their example
Whether its on the parade square, during a canoe trip, while setting up a tent or sailing a boat, by the time they finish the Cadet Program, these youth will have been placed in a variety of positions of responsibility, and will have learned important life-long lessons about leadership.
The lessons in leadership that are taught to cadets are of value in all aspects of their lives beyond the Cadet Program. Schoolteachers, for example, often advise cadets as being uniquely willing to take on leadership roles with their fellow students. And thousands of former cadets credit the Cadet Program with teaching them how to be good leaders – a skill that benefits any employer
Life Skills Develop the skills that will best prepare you for the future. CV preparation, How to prepare for an interview,
Accepting responsibility, Respect for others, Tolerance, team work and most importantly self worth and self discipline
Adventure Training Adventurous Training relates to a number of outdoor activities which offer adventurous and challenging activities for the purposes of personal development. A challenge to the individual, and involves an element of risk in a controlled situation. These could include such activities as tramping, abseiling, rock climbing, gliding, caving etc..
Drill, Dress and bearing Learn the team work and skills required to stand tall in public. Become skilled in meeting exacting standards of personal presentation. Have pride in your appearance
Bush craft Become skilled and comfortable in a bush environment, camping, cooking, what gear to take, how to carry it, environmental care code.
Survival Skills Develop skills to improve your survival in various outdoor environments.
First Aid Know how to look after yourself and your team in the area of First Aid. Cadets train in First Aid at all levels. A vital life skill, but one which cadets can and do use in real life situations. First Aid certificates may be attained through the Unit Training system
General Service Knowledge Gain knowledge about the New Zealand Army, the equipment is uses, what it offers and how it assists New Zealanders.
Instructional techniques Develop skills in passing on knowledge to other Cadets.
Navigation Find you way in open and bush country.
Weapons training and marksmanship Become skilled in safe weapons handling and competition shooting.
Radio procedures Gain and practice correct military procedures when using radios.
Citizenship training Acquire status from serving others. One of the most important aspects of program is learning how to be responsible and caring citizens. Throughout the year, cadets are called upon to demonstrate the importance of being active members of their communities, and to participate in citizenship activities in the community
Recreational training Achieve skills in a wide range of recreational activities including inter unit sports days. Sport is great for developing Leadership skills, and promoting teamwork. The Unit also conducts has fun nights or alternative weekend training days to normal teenage activities e.g. X-Box competitions, DVD nights, paint-ball etc.
Physical Training Gain and maintain the benefits of a good level of fitness.
Involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme (voluntary) Become involved in an international leadership training scheme. The Award has something extra to offer our members-cadets and young instructors- between the ages of 14 and 18, and this is best described as public recognition of their skills and talents. The Award is the recognisable "common currency" into which, with some extra effort on the part of the participant, their achievements can be converted.
Almost all of the categories within the DOEA are cross-related with the NZCF. So whilst you're training for first aid, drill, target shooting and expeditions, you're also working towards your DOEA.
