ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS

It is essential that Officer candidates have demonstrated their suitability to supervise cadets in a fair and equitable manner. In addition, candidates must:

    * Be of good character;
    * Be literate;
    * Have empathy for teenagers;
    * Have demonstrated ability to supervise and  
       instruct teenagers;
    * Display positive leadership characteristics.
    * Be prepared to accept the responsibility and
       Duty of Care for cadets;
    * Be committed to attend NZDF training courses
      as a student and, if considered suitable,
      a staff member; and
    * Be a willing volunteer to give the time commitment required for attendance at weekly unit parades and programmed weekend activities.

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS

is desirable that an Officer candidate:

    * Be physically fit and active.
    * Possess military or Cadet Forces knowledge.
      This can be learned at unit level over the first
      20 weeks.
    * Possess the personal qualities to effectively
       foster the qualities of leadership and responsible
       citizenship;
    * For Cadet Corps, possess some knowledge of
       outdoor activities;
   
Applicants for Cadet Forces Officer commissions are to attend unit routine parade activities for a period of at least 20 parades before completing an application form for a probationary commission.
Pay

Cadet Force officers are unpaid volunteers. However, you do get paid when attending NZCF authorised courses as a student or a staff member.

Age Limitations

Applications from persons applying for a commission in the NZCF will not normally be accepted under the age of 20 years, unless in exceptional cases.

NO Cadet or Military Experience Needed.
NZCC isn’t part of the Army.
NZCC is a youth programme sponsored by the New Zealand Defence Force
